TOP 5 TOUGH MUDDER TIPS – How to prepare for Whistlers Tough Mudder

Below are 5 essential quick tips to prepare you for this years Tough Mudder held in Whistler BC.

1. PREPARE YOUR KNEES

Be prepared for physical challenges aside from the obstacles:
You will be climbing over rocks, logs, brush, running, sliding and falling in mud all day.
Your muscles, joints, and ligaments need to be ready for the workload ahead:
In the weeks before the event be as active as you can – as varied as you can. Your knees will thank you later!

2. PREPARE YOUR GEAR

Good shoes with grip!
Many injuries are caused by old runners sliding off muddy rocks – get something designed for outdoor action.
Good shirt/pants/shorts!
No cotton or heavy fabrics – You will be wet…alot – dont weigh yourself down.
Good socks!
Wool socks can be removed and wrung out to remove excess water – heavy feet make for a long day.

3. PREPARE YOUR CREW

Know where you will meet your group the morning of and after the race:
There will be thousands of people all looking like mud men covered in dirt – your people wont stand out.

No one will have their phones so know ahead of time where to go if you get separated.

4. PREPARE FOR CLEAN UP

You will need/want a change of clothes/shoes at the end:
Use garbage bags to store your muddy gear.
Bring towel and wet wipes for cleaning up and more towels to sit on in the car.
Hose off your muddy trophies at home.

5. PREPARE FOR RECOVERY

Get some sleep – Let your body relax and begin the recovery process for your sore bones:
Then use light movement to improve circulation and flush out your muscles.
Drink plenty of fluids and have a large complete and balanced meal.
Put in some mobility time on the foam rollers and a long stretching session.
